Feed & Grain LIVE is a two-and-a-half day educational conference for feed and grain industry professionals. This event will be held at an easy-access location in central Iowa on May 31 – June 2, 2017. Compared to last year, Feed & Grain LIVE 2017 will have a bigger trade show, more hands-on education, feature more speakers and cover more topics.
Erin Bowers is a western Iowa native working in the area of mycotoxin management in grain and feed. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and doctoral degree in toxicology, both from Iowa State University, and is currently a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State.
Michael Dwyer serves as the Chief Economist for the U.S. Grains Council, a non-profit organization that promotes the use of U.S. barley, corn, sorghum and related products (including ethanol) worldwide. In this capacity, he provides trade, marketing, and policy analysis of developments in global supply and demand; helps the USGC staff and its members stay abreast of developments in the global market; and develops and maintains information on changing market conditions that will benefit the Council’s overseas contacts. Mike manages the Council’s worldwide ethanol market development activities and travels extensively in Asia, Latin America, and Europe, gaining first-hand knowledge of markets, current supply-demand factors, policies, decision-makers, and issues that impact global markets. He speaks frequently at professional conferences and to the news media in the U.S. and around the world. In addition, he serves on the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee advising the Secretary of Commerce on matters pertaining to biofuels. Dwyer holds an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from The Ohio State University with a specialization in international trade and marketing and econometrics.
David was promoted to vice president of feed services in March 2012, after having served as director since joining the staff in 2001. He manages the NGFA’s activities pertaining to feed and feed ingredient manufacturing, and livestock/poultry integrator operations. Among other things, he directs the NGFA’s highly acclaimed Model Feed Quality Assurance Program and distance-learning courses, and other feed-related educational and training programs. He also assists in membership recruitment and retention programs for the feed sector, and provides assistance to Affiliated Associations in addressing feed-related issues at the state level. He is the principal staff liaison to the Feed Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee and Feed Manufacturing and Technology Committee, and is a staff liaison to the Biofuels and Co-Products Committee. Dave joined the staff after 20 years as a manager of feed mills for Cargill Inc.’s Nutrena Feed Division; Continental Grain Co.’s Wayne Feed Division and Animal Nutrition Division; and Hubbard Feeds Inc.
Dr. John Foltz is Special Assistant to the President for Agricultural Initiatives at the University of Idaho, and a Professor in Agribusiness Management in the Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology Department at the University of Idaho. Foltz is a Dean Emeritus for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and co-author of the bi-monthly Feed & Grain magazine column, Manager’s Notebook. Prior to his appointment as Associate Dean, Dr. Foltz served as a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural sociology, with an area of expertise in Agribusiness Management. He taught courses in the department’s agribusiness curriculum, which included a capstone class for graduating seniors, an agribusiness sales class, and a course on agricultural cooperatives. Other classes he has taught included introductory agricultural economics and upper-level agribusiness management classes.
Manager of the Northern Crops Institute’s Feed Production Center and Program Director for feed technology, technical assistance and education programs. He has held the position since 1990. Adjunct faculty member, Animal Science Department North Dakota State University since 2006 teaching Feed Technology. He has provided education and technical assistance programming in more than 35 countries for the U.S. Grains Council, the U.S. Soybean Export Council, the U.S. Dry Pea and Lentil Council; industry partner Land O’ Lakes International Development, and in 2014 the Chinese Academy of Science – Institute of Sub-tropical Agriculture. Dr. Koch is also a Trainer of Trainers and Lead Instructor for both Human and Animal Food, is one of the Chairs for the FSPCA’s International Sub-committee Trainer Network Work Group and is a member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Work Group.
Dr. Maier’s research program focuses on post-harvest engineering applied to grain and feed operations and processing. Projects involve post-harvest loss reduction and prevention, food security, grain operations management, feed technology, post-harvest engineering (crop handling, drying, storage, processing and loss prevention), value-added processing of agricultural crops and food/feed products, ecosystem modeling, stored products protection (IPM, fumigation), alternative crop storage systems (grain chilling, hermetic storage), dehydration of biological products, bulk material (grain, feed) handling and segregation (IP), quality assurance of agricultural crops and biological products, and facilities planning and design (including safety, entrapment rescue, dust explosion prevention, system simulation).
Greg Martinelli runs Ag Sales Professionals, a training & coaching service for sales professionals & sales leaders. Martinelli spent the last 24 years with a large ag based company developing sales teams across the Midwest that focused on the feed and grain business for both national & international markets. The focus of those teams were high engagement and high productivity, which led to higher profits and increased market share for the businesses he worked in. As a speaker, coach and trainer, he brings his deep understanding of the sales process to help sales professionals develop and understand where they fit into the marketplace and establish a deeper connection to their target market. Martinelli brings his enthusiasm and well developed sense of humor to engage and involve audiences in his presentations to make learning fun and stick with them after it’s over.
Jess McCluer manages National Grain and Feed Association’s wide-ranging operational programs concerning employee safety and industrial health, environmental issues, grain-handling facility design and equipment, and grain inspection and weighing issues. He is principal staff liaison to the Safety, Health and Environmental Quality Committee, Grain Grades and Weights Committee, Biotechnology Committee, and Agroterrorism and Facility Security Committee.
Dr. Gerardo Morantes is the Director of Food Safety-North America for Bühler Inc. Morantes is a professional Nutritionist and Food Safety expert with a wide range of experience in the feed, grains, and oilseeds industries. He is the Food Safety Leader for the Food Innovation Center in Minneapolis and represents Bühler in different food and feed trade associations. Morantes started his career with the International Division of the Ralston Purina Co. where he held positions in Research and Development and Feed Plant Operations. His educational background includes an Agricultural Engineer degree from the University of Costa Rica and he completed both his PhD and Master of Science degrees in Animal Nutrition at the University of Florida.
Jeff joined White Commercial Corporation as a financial specialist in 2008 after spending two decades in banking. He works to provide financial consulting services through confidential appointments and a variety of innovative programs designed to meet the needs of customers, lenders and CPAs. Jeff is married with three grown children and resides in Palm City, FL.
Richard Sellers is the American Feed Industry Association’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Education. Sellers’ responsibilities include overseeing legislative and regulatory efforts, interacting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, state feed control agencies and legislative bodies and providing comments to those agencies and information about those agencies to AFIA membership. He is also a registered professional animal scientist.
